Renting: You Don’t Have To Suffer In An Apartment

A

Just because you have chosen to rent does not mean you have to suffer being cramped up and dealing with apartment living hassles. Those who have spent any time understand the hassles of living in an apartment. Here are the chief complaints.

Noisy Neghibohrs:

It could be thunderous music or someone learning how to tap dance above you. Living next to someone who does not respect your right to peace can be very disconcerting. Noise is the chief complaint that property managers have to deal with. We recommend dealing with a noisy neighbor to give us a call, and we can help you find a new home free from unwanted noise. Additionally, you can find out what ordinances your municipality has against noise. You can always file a complaint with the police and/or your property manager.

Ignored Maintenance Requests:

How long has your garbage disposal not worked? Does it seem like the maintenance department is avoiding your calls? Do you have thoughts that your requests are getting sent into the round filing cabinet? Every landlord has a duty to maintain a habitual living space.  This blog shows you some steps you can take to get a resolution to fix the issues in your apartment.  Being ignored by your landlord and maintenance department can be very frustrating; if you would like help finding a new home, click here.

Smelly Neighbors:

What is that smell? It could be your neighbors’ tobacco or marijuana habit or spoiled garbage. Just like noise, smells can invade your quiet and peaceful home life. Certain smells like smoke and chemicals can actually impact your health. The New York Times has some great advice. They recommend speaking with your neighbor first. If that doesn’t help, contact your property manager.  You can also try purchasing a great air purifier for your home.

Landlord Problems:

Like any professional and personal agreement, a relationship with a landlord can be fraught with issues. However, with a little tact and knowledge, you may be able to get certain issues addressed. Renters have certain rights, and you can find these rights by visiting The Department of Housing and Urban Development.  HUD handles complaints about housing discrimination, bad landlords in federal housing, and many other issues. For additional local resources, you can also contact a housing counseling agency. A reasonable landlord will respond when you address the issue professionally and calmly. If you can’t get your issue resolved, you may want to consider moving.
